My name is Jillian Loth and I graduated from Concordia University's Film Production program. As a woman who is devoted to directing and cinematography, my artistic practice is driven by my passion for storytelling and aesthetic visuals. My inspirations derive from my unique upbringing and the stories of those closest to me. My work is known to blur the lines between fiction and documentary, incorporating realistic topics and social issues into my fiction films, along with weaving fiction-like narratives into my documentaries.
As a director, I am driven by a desire to tell stories that challenge societal norms, explore the complexities of human nature, and shed light on underrepresented perspectives and experiences, especially those of women. I believe that film has the power to connect, educate, and foster empathy, and I am committed to using my artistic voice to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse landscape in the realm of filmmaking.
As a director of photography, I am deeply inspired by the visual aspects of filmmaking and consider it a space where I can truly express my creativity. I am drawn to capturing the essence of a story through my lens and crafting compelling visuals that heighten the emotional impact of the narrative. As a woman in a male- dominated field, I am determined to challenge gender norms. I aspire to be part of a generation of women leading the way to a more inclusive and diverse community in the technical roles of filmmaking. I believe that diverse voices behind the camera are essential in telling authentic stories and creating positive change.
